The North East Gonja District Assembly joined the rest of the country to celebrate Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary with a colorful ceremony held on 6th March, 2026 at the Libi School Park.
The celebration was held under the theme “Building Prosperity & Restoring Hope and brought together traditional authorities, heads of public institutions, teachers, students and residents across the district to commemorate Ghana’s independence and reflect on the country’s progress and future aspirations.


Among the dignitaries present were the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, the Member of Parliament for Salaga North Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni, and the District Chief Executive for North East Gonja Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah.

A major highlight of the celebration was the march past by selected schools within the district. Schools that participated in the parade included Libi D/A Primary School, Kpalbe Islamic Primary School, Chamgbuligu D/A Primary School, Gbung D/A Primary School, Libi D/A JHS, Kpalbe Islamic JHS, KM Model Girls JHS, Kpandu D/A JHS, Gbung D/A JHS and Latinkpa Presby JHS. The students displayed discipline, patriotism and unity during the parade.


In the Primary School Category, Libi D/A Primary School emerged winners for their outstanding performance during the march past.
In the Junior High School Category, Kpalbe Islamic JHS emerged winners and took home the trophy.
The winning schools were presented with trophies, jerseys, footballs, certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their impressive performance and discipline during the march past.


As part of efforts to encourage discipline and support students’ education, the Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni, also presented bicycles to well-disciplined and committed students to assist them with transportation to and from school.
Another key highlight of the celebration was the presentation of motorcycles to Circuit Supervisors (CS) within the district to enhance monitoring and supervision of schools across the district.


Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah, emphasized that the initiative forms part of efforts by the Assembly to strengthen education delivery and improve effective supervision of teaching and learning in schools, particularly in rural communities.
The celebration ended on a joyful note as students, teachers and community members reaffirmed their commitment to unity, patriotism and collective responsibility in building a prosperous Ghana.
