The North East Gonja District held its 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration at Fuu on 5th December, 2025 under the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” The event recognized and rewarded excellence in agriculture through 15 award categories, including Overall Best District Farmer, Best Crop and Livestock Farmers, Best Female Farmer, Best Fisher, Best MoFA Staff, Best Innovation Farmer, and Best Agricultural Institutions and Groups, among others.

The District Director of Agriculture highlighted key FAO/EU-supported interventions contributing significantly to food security in the district. These included the distribution of 12 threshers, 12 moisture meters, and 1,550 PICS bags to reduce post-harvest losses; vaccination of over 31,000 poultry against Newcastle disease and small ruminants against PPR in 12 communities; capacity-building trainings for farmers through the transfer of new technologies; and preparations to establish irrigation facilities in seven communities to support year-round farming.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alhaji Mumuni Alhassan both acknowledged the vital contribution of the EU-supported projects and pledged strong collaboration to ensure effective implementation. The MP further assured stakeholders of a fast-tracked electricity extension to the processing centre to ensure timely connectivity and pledged the provision of four motorbikes to the District Directorate to enhance monitoring of agricultural activities.

The celebration reaffirmed the district’s commitment to strengthening agriculture, improving food security, and supporting farmers through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions.
