On May 13, 2025, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture in the North East Gonja District, organized a seed production training at the Kpalbe Community Center. The event brought together over 40 farmers from Nomnayili, Jinlo, and Nyamaliga, with targeted sessions for different farmer groups—Nyamaliga farmers focused on soybean seed production, while the Kanyitiwale group from Nomnayili was trained in sorghum seed production.

The training aimed to equip farmers with the skills needed to produce high-quality certified seeds to improve seed availability and support agribusiness development. Key topics covered included proper field selection, isolation distance, rouging, harvesting, and post-harvest handling—all tailored to seed production rather than grain cultivation.
IITA committed to supporting participants with critical inputs such as foundation seeds, fertilizers, and agrochemicals. As a practical follow-up, each four-member farmer group was tasked with establishing a one-acre seed production farm.

This initiative represents a major step toward enhancing local seed systems and promoting agricultural self-reliance in the district.
