North East Gonja District Assembly Supports Women-Led Income Generating Activity (IGA’s) Groups Under SOCO Project

As part of its ongoing commitment to community empowerment and local economic growth, the North East Gonja District Assembly, under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah, has successfully handed over vital business equipment and seed capital to six women-led Income Generating Activity (IGA) groups. This intervention falls under the Local Economic Development (LED) component of the Sustainable Opportunities for Community Ownership (SOCO) Project.



The support package—comprising business tools and startup funds—was carefully targeted to enhance the productivity and viability of groups engaged in gari processing, rice processing, and soap making. This initiative is designed to empower women economically, enhance household incomes, and contribute to sustainable local development within the district.


The District Assembly SOCO LED implementation Team, in the company of the DCE, visited six communities to officially present the items to the respective group members and executives. The beneficiary groups included:

1.Bianto Gari Processing Group – Kidenge

2.Kanyiti Wale Processing Group – Libi

3.Finance Rice Processing Group – Fuu

4.Wuntira Rice Processing Group – Tantuani

5.Keshe Wale Soap Making Group – Bunjai

6.Suglo N-Boriboni Rice Processing Group – Daashe



Each group received tailored sets of equipment and their respective cash allocations, which were presented in the presence of group executives and active members. The event witnessed active participation from community leaders, Assembly staff and Project Stakeholders.


The DCE (Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah) applauded the women for their dedication to improving their livelihoods through their IGA’s. He urged them to remain focused, committed, and transparent in managing the resources allocated to them. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, accountability, and value addition to their products in order to ensure long-term business success.
