Honoring Excellence in Agriculture: National Farmers Day Celebrations in North East Gonja District

On November 8, 2024, the National Farmers’ Day celebration took place at the North East Gonja District Assembly office in the Savannah region of Ghana. This annual event recognizes the resilience and contributions of local farmers to food security. The awards were part of Ghana’s 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration held nationwide under the theme “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.” This theme highlighted Ghana’s commitment to adapting agricultural practices to meet the challenges posed by climate change.

The District Chief Executive(Hon. Mohammed Musah Tindawu) and the District Coordinating Director (Mr. Issah Imoro) of the North East Gonja District Assembly presented awards to recognize and motivate the district’s hardworking farmers. They encouraged all farmers to continue their dedicated efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.

Top honors included awards for the district’s Best Farmer and Best Livestock Farmer, awarded to Mr. Asumah Razak, among other recipients. Winners received items such as motorbikes, fertilizer packages, agricultural tools, and equipment. These awards were designed not only to celebrate their dedication but also to equip them with resources for continued productivity. The event underscored broader government initiatives like “Planting for Food and Jobs,” which provides subsidized inputs to boost local agriculture and combat food insecurity.
